Tania founded Electric Genetics with Dr. Win Hide in 1997, bringing with her over 10 years of marketing, strategic planning and business development experience in the bioinformatics field. Prior to founding Electric Genetics, Tania spent two years providing strategic marketing and business development services, through her own consultancy, to virtually every major bioinformatics company including GCG, Pangea Systems, Molecular Applications Group and DNAstar, to name a few.
Before launching her consulting business she was employed by Oxford Molecular Group as Bioinformatics Marketing Manager and, prior to that, at IntelliGenetics Inc in various marketing and sales roles, culminating with a position as Software Marketing Manager and participating as a Director of the company. Tania received her BSc in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University in Evanston IL.
Win's background is in evolutionary biology and genomics and his experience is in the development of high performance tools for the analysis of the human genome. Currently, Win's work focuses on the detection of disease genes, including human genetics diseases, and intracellular invasion and microbial virulence genes. He also works on the development of databases of virtual human expressed genes and human genome structure.
Hide was a Keck fellow in the USA at Baylor College of Medicine and also a fellow at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington DC. He has been director of Genomics at MasPar Computer Corporation in Silicon Valley and is a doctoral graduate of Temple University in Philadelphia. Hide returned to South Africa from the USA in order to make a significant and competitive contribution to South African re-development through bioinformatics.
Her favorite aspect of her work is the fact that Electric Genetics is at the forefront of innovation and technology and is clearly making a difference in the health industry.
