Electric Genetics is a pioneer in the field of computational genomics and provides genomic data analysis systems and validated drug targets for the pharmaceautical, biotechnology and genomics market.

Through a core of transcriptomic data offerings Electric Genetics' solutions provide the ability to clearly relate the relationships between genome, gene expression data and phenotype: a key requirement for gene discovery. These products provide a novel and powerful means to integrate information from clinical genetics, genomics, expression studies and proteomics to link genotypes to humans' physical characteristics and pathologic states. and thus boost the discovery process.

More recently additional resources have been applied to the development and application of a novel technology, using the company's core transcriptomic expertise, to identify and validate drug targets in infectious diseases.

The release of the human and other genomes have presented pharmaceutical companies with massive amounts of data to process. Existing tools are unable to effectively and accurately handle large datasets.

As a result rapid access to new bioinformatics developments is required to increase the number of leads generated to fill big pharmaceutical companies' pipelines. Electric Genetics has competative technical advantages which combined with flexibility, cutting edge science and great customer service make the company a formidable allay to have in the genomics arena.

Electric Genetics is commited to supporting pure research by providing some of its solutions to academics at discounted or no charge.

Since Electric Genetics inception in 1997 the multidiciplinary team have developed technologies in the area of:

  • Accurate and rapid analysis of genomic data
  • Genomic comparisons
  • Relating genotypic behaviour to phenotypic characteristics.
  • Identifying and validating critical genes in Infections diseases.

Electric Genetics commercializes the following products and services:

stackPACK™

This is the most widely used transcript reconstruction and management tool in the market. It clusters DNA fragments from any organism together to create 'virtual genes' or transcripts. It is a holistic approach providing visualization and management tools in addition to the actual processing elements. stackPACK is unique in that it focuses on the capture of potential alternative splice forms where each potential alternate splice form codes for a different protein. These features facilitate the rapid and accurate development of probes for microarray-based expression studies, resulting in sales to key customers such as Affymetrix.

STACKdb™

A reconstructed human gene index. The "Sequence Tag And Consensus Knowledgebase" employs the stackPACK system to prepare a database of human gene transcripts, including highlighted variation within those transcripts. By subscribing to the pre-processed, value-added data in STACKdb, users not only free their own computers for other important and CPU-intensive tasks but also greatly enhance the accuracy of target gene detection and microarray probe selection.

eVoke™

The expression ontology toolkit. eVoke™ links experimental data with standardized terms that provide insight into phenotype in a way easily understood by researchers in all disciplines. The four ontologies provide an appropriate set of detailed human terms that describe the sample source of human cDNA and SAGE libraries. These expression terms are linked to libraries and transcripts allowing the assessment of tissue expression profiles, differential gene expression levels and the physical distribution of expression across the genome. Analysis is currently possible using EST and SAGE data with microarray data to follow shortly.
eVoke™ ontologies are rapidly being adopted as a standard for describing gene expression state by key functional genome resources around the world. The only peer-reviewed, published human expression ontologies broadly available, eVoke™'s ontologies are presently incorporated into Ensembl, have been adopted by Genome Knowledgebase and work is underway to link them to the widely-used Gene Ontology (GO)

Collaborations -- novel genes and proteins

ADAPT™ is a revolutionary in-silico technology for the rapid identification of medically important or otherwise specialized genes in any organism. Electric Genetics has optimized this system to discover novel drug target candidates in bacterial, fungal and protozoal pathogens. ADAPT™ has been shown to have a very high success-rate in a proof-of-concept study performed on a major bacterial pathogen.
Electric Genetics is entering the drug discovery market by;
  • Developing a portfolio of proprietary drug targets for major pathogens, including:
Helicobacter pylori, Streptococcus pneumonia, Staphylococcus aureus, Mycobacterium teberculosis and the malaria parasite, Plasmodium to be licensed.
  • Establising target discovery collaborations with biotechnology/pharmaceutical companies to leverage the ADAPT™ system.
